The Human Network
Welcome to the human network. Welcome to a place where we're all connected. Where remote villages are included. And your PDA is a stadium seat. Where home videos are experienced everywhere at once. And web applications mash together to create new experiences. On the human network, wonderful things are happening everywhere. And anything is possible. Because when we're together, we're more powerful than we ever could be apart.

Jeff Bezos on the next web innovation
The dot-com boom-and-bust is often compared to the 1849 Gold Rush, and Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos offers historical evidence showing how similar they were: from the riches made by pioneers to the media hype that attracted luckless speculators.
But a better analogy can be found in the early days of the electric industry, he says. In the late 1800s, the U.S. was first wired to support lightbulbs; the following century saw a long procession of new appliances, life-changing advances, and of course some amusing failures.
His conclusion in 2003: "I believe there’s more innovation ahead of us than behind us."

How does technology evolve?
Kevin Kelly uses evolutionary theory to discuss the purpose and value of technology. By asking, "What does technology want?" he shows that its movement toward ubiquity and complexity is much like the evolution of life.

Entrepreneurs are the future of space flight
Burt Rutan: Entrepreneurs are the future of space flight
In this passionate talk, legendary spacecraft designer Burt Rutan lambastes the US government-funded space program for stagnating: "Houston, we have a problem. We're entering a second generation of no progress." He calls for entrepreneurs to lead the next wave of space exploration, funding new crafts, new (manned) missions, and entirely new approaches to space exploration.

How technology's accelerating power will transform us
Prolific inventor and outrageous visionary Ray Kurzweil explains in abundant, grounded detail why -- by the 2020s -- we will have reverse-engineered the human brain, and nanobots will be operating your consciousness.
Kurzweil draws on years of research to show the speed at which technology is evolving, and projects forward into an almost unthinkable future to outline the ways we’ll use technology to augment our own capabilities, forever blurring the lines between human and machine.

The Future is Smart
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuvJgz9OyGI
Technology is getting smarter -- and smart systems are increasingly seen as the technological future.
The applications are limitless as these two extremely diverse examples show. From the University of Plymouth comes a building that manages itself and encourages active interaction from its occupants, a building that's not just about throwing in technological solutions, but about getting people to think about how they use the space they work in.
And from the University of Bournemouth, also in the South West of England, there is a military training simulator that can accurately re-create the conditions of a real military offensive, providing the trainee with real expertise and skills from his training.
